  • Responsibilities

    Responsible for the day to day operational needs of the department which includes supervision of the Central Pharmacy staff pharmacist and technicians. Collaborates with Manager of Clinical Services and fellow supervisor to assess, plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate services and activities for area of responsibility. Executes the hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of staff pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Periodically assigned special tasks and may be asked to serve on team oriented projects. Supports and integrates quality assessment and quality improvement into daily work activities of teams. Functions with limited supervision, utilizes independent and collaborative judgment in decision-making, and demonstrates leadership and problem solving skills. Assists customers in meeting their needs. Routinely serves in all staff related or distributive roles.

    Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.

    Qualifications

    Education
    Bachelor's degree in pharmacy required. Doctorate of Pharmacy or Master's degree in health care or job related area preferred.

    Licensure/Certification
    Current, valid license in the State of Georgia as a pharmacist required.

    Experience
    Two years of full-time hospital experience as a pharmacist. Experience in outpatient setting will be recognized as deemed pertinent to job related activities.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    High level of interpersonal skills in order to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, team members, physicians, and other hospital personnel with whom daily interaction must take place.

    Ability to think critically and prioritize tasks and responsibilities.

    Problem solving skills sufficient to allow effective problem/conflict resolution.

    Demonstrated traits of initiative and dependability required.

    Management skills sufficient to efficiently supervise personnel and coordinate services in an efficient, fair manner.

    Basic skills in computer word processing and data spreadsheets.

    Reading comprehension and visual skills sufficient to accurately see and interpret physician orders and enter appropriate information into pharmacy computer.

    Hearing comprehension sufficient to communicate effectively in person or over the telephone.

    Philosophy of health care service compatible with that of University Hospital.

    Physical Demands
    Ability to move throughout the hospital to accomplish duties. Visual ability to see & read records, reports, or computer terminals. Manual dexterity to enter data and retrieve data from computers or related information systems. Ability to communicate verbally. Ability to move moderately heavy objects (i.e., IV fluids, drug carts, supplies, equipment, etc.).
