The Recreation Aide under the supervision of the Activity Manager is responsible for conducting scheduled resident activities to include social and recreational activities. Assists the Activities Manager with the implementation of the overall program and provides input in the planning process. He/She is responsible to the Activities Manager. Accountability is monitored through job performance. Q.A. activities and comments from employees, residents and guests.
Must be a high school graduate or possess GED.
Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program. Long term care preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Communication skills and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of functional levels among residents;
and to interact with families and staff.
Basic understanding of the needs of the elderly and their recreational interests.
Ability to manage group activities and coordinate activities with other staff.
Able to read, write, compute simple arithmetic; able to speak clearly and distinctly
Obtains and maintains competence in BLS Heartsaver Skills
Able to transport (push) residents by wheelchair, able to transfer residents from wheelchair to chair, wheelchair
Able to lift/carry supplies, not in excess of 40 lbs.; can remove and return items to shelves above shoulder level.
Sufficient hand dexterity to participate in games, arts and crafts, and table activities.
Can hear sufficiently to discern residents’ requests and responses.
